Scam Calls

I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Fraud, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey.

Five Signs of a Scam Call
1. Unexpected contact: If you receive an unplanned call from someone claiming to be from service provider, be cautious. Hang up if you weren’t expecting it.
2. Full password or PIN requests: Service provider will never ask for your entire password or PIN. If someone does, it’s a scam.
3. Pressure tactics: Scammers may claim your service will be cut off or that your account has been compromised to create a sense of urgency. Don’t give in to pressure.
4. Remote access requests: Never allow a caller to access your device. This can give fraudsters full control of your personal data.
5. Robotic or scripted tone: Be wary if the caller sounds unnatural or follows a rigid script. It’s a common tactic used by scammers.

Stay alert. Stay safe. If in doubt, hang up and contact service provider directly using the official numbers listed on their website.

Fraud can affect anyone within the community, so we want to make sure you have the tools and knowledge to protect yourself from it. It comes in many different forms and across varying channels, whether that's through emails, phone calls or in person encounters. Some adults may be even more vulnerable to fraud or financial abuse, but it is something that everyone can be at risk of. If you’re concerned about someone you know, please contact your local social services and ask for Adult Social Care.
